Shadowlands' Celebrations: Fire-Flower Feast

Fire-Flowers Feast has come to the Shadowlands! 'Tis the first celebration of Summer.  It is a time to be thankful for the blooming of summer plants, Summer Foraging, and the honoring of our elders.

After a day of prayers, preparations, and early Summer foraging (if the weather allows), friends and family gather about to feast together upon the bounty which we all pray continues through the growing season, giving thanks to Jesus for the Elders, living and past who have guided on our journeys in the shadowlands into the wyldwode.

Example of Fire-Flowers Feast Blessing:

"Creator of All, we thank You for this Fire-flowers Feast as we honor our elders.  As we gather here this day, may we always give thanks for the warming of spring, the cooler clothing made by loving hands, and for fresh wild foods, berries, flowers, and wild game which now sustain us. We remember our Elders who have crossed from the land of living to the land of the dead and seek to honor the Elders still living who still teach and guide us.  As we eat this feast set out before us, may we never forget those who taught us to live here in the Wyldwode."

Example of Fire-Flowers Feast Crafts & Games:

  • Make an Elder's Memorial Stone
  • Make Wild Flower Bundles to Place on Elder's Graves/Memorial Stones
  • Make Wild Flower Bundle or Wreath for Elders Still Living
  • Swimming Games
  • Plant last of Summer Harvest Plants
  • Make a Circle with Stones, either in a spiral or a "stone circle"

Example of a Fire-Flower's Feast Foods:

  • Roast Chicken (or other Game Bird)
  • Fried Goat Cheese Stuffed Squash Blossoms
  • Wild Onion and Cucumber (with Tomatoes & Bell Peppers)
  • Chilled Cider
  • Sweet Potato-Yucca Bread Pudding with Honeysuckle-Red Clover Glaze
  • Chilled Summer Chia Tea (Dandelion Root, Wild Giger, Tumeric, Chia, and Green Tea)

Fire-Flower's Feast is a special celebration here withing the Shadowlands and Wyldwode, at Nightstar Cottage, as it gives us a chance to remember those Elders living and departed.  This year, we are starting to gather stones for our stone circle, around our fire pit, and placing memorial stones within it too.  Here, as we Wildstead, we tend to swim, tell stories, and feast.  Above we share some examples of foods, crafts, and a story, but we would love to hear in the comments about your clan's festivities too!
